This Week’s New DVDs: January 6 2014

Insidious: Chapter 2, The Great Train Robbery, Frances Ha, What Maisie Knew and I Dream Of Wires all come out as the release schedule resumes after Christmas.

 

Insidious: Chapter 2

The second instalment of the horror sequel did superbly at the box office this summer and is sure to clean up on DVD too. Starring a returning Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson, this is even scarier than the original. You can read more about the film here.

 

The Great Train Robbery

This BBC drama starring The Hobbit's Luke Evans as the mastermind between Britain's most famous heist and Jim Broadbent as the cop trying to catch the gang is released on DVD today too.

 

Frances Ha

Noah Baumbach's lo-fi comedy about a dancer who's life is suddenly turned upside down drew rave reviews earlier this year and now comes to DVD. You can read our feature on where to start with Noah Baumbach here too. 

 

What Maisie Knew

Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgård, Onata Aprile, Joanna Vanderham and Steve Coogan star in this adaptation of Henry James's 1897 novel of the same name, which is relocated to modern day New York.

Agatha Christie's Marple – Series Six

The sixth season of the iconic whodunit show comes to DVD.

 

You, Me & Them – Series One

Anthony Head, Eve Myles and Lindsay Duncan star in this sitcom about a large, chaotic extended family.

 

I Dream Of Wires – Hardcore Edition

Gary Numan, Trent Reznor and Depeche Mode's Vince Clarke all contribute to this lengthy documentary about the development of synthesizers and their impact on music. At four hours in length, this is a dream watch for hardcore synthesizer and electronic music fanatics. Check out our feature about the film here.

 

Also Out This Week

Robson Green's Tales From Northumberland is also released on DVD this week as does Strike Back (Series 1-4). Series three of Danish drama Unit One also comes out, as does Kevin Hart's latest stand-up release Let Me Explain and horror thriller Heretic. Finally, low-budget horror flick Wrong Apartment and British gritty drama The Deadly Game are also newly out.
