Varsity Blues to be adapted into new TV series

Beloved teen drama Varsity Blues is to be brought back as a TV series.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount TV and the film's original writer, W. Peter Iliff are teaming up to produce a pilot for a new series, which would then be shown on US network CMT.

The movie starred James Van Der Beek, Paul Walker, Jon Voight and Amy Smart and followed the fortunes of a high school football team named West Canaan Coyotes.

It grossed $54.3 million against a budget of just $16 million back in 1999.
