Watch a creepy, unrecognisable Johnny Depp in 1st trailer for Black Mass
A new trailer for the fact-based drama Black Mass about infamous South Boston criminal-turned FBI informant-turned-criminal Whitey Bulger - as played by a completely transformed Johnny Depp - has surfaced. Check it out below.
With his organized crime connections, Bulger was more than just notorious – for 16 years between 1994 and 2011, he remained at large. For 12 of those years, Bulger was listed second on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, behind only Osama bin Laden for crimes including (but not limited to) murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit extortion and narcotics distribution.
He was also the brother of former President of the Massachusetts Senate William "Billy" Bulger, fuelling spirited nature-versus-nurture arguments from Boston to Boca Raton.
Black Mass, which also stars Kevin Bacon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson and Peter Sarsgaard, features Depp as we have rarely seen him: downright scary and far from hunk material. Judging by the trailer, the film will not dance around Bulger’s ruthless brutality.
Black Mass opens September 18.
