Watch Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan in the emotional first trailer for Suffragette

The first trailer for Suffragette, the new drama that tells the story of British women's suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th century, has been unveiled. Scroll down and click to watch it. 

The movie stars Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson and Romola Garai, with Streep playing the movement's leader Emmeline Pankhurst. 

It has been directed by Sarah Gavron, who was behind the camera on The Village At The End Of The World and Brick Lane, with a script from Shame writer Abi Morgan. 

Suffragette, which is the first movie to have ever been allowed to film inside the Houses Of Parliament, is also confirmed to open this year's London Film Festival.

It will premiere at the festival on October 7th before opening in cinemas across the UK on October 30th.
