Watch Michael Fassbender in the brand new trailer for Assassin's Creed

A brand new trailer has arrived for Assassin's Creed, the upcoming film directed by Justin Kurzel based on Ubisoft's popular series of action-adventure games, and it looks very, very promising. Michael Fassbender will star in the new film, once again teaming up with Australian director Kurzel, who directed Fassbender in his adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Scottish play', Macbeth.

The new trailer features Fassbender in a shady-looking scientific facility, where it is explained that his bloodline had been traced back 500 years to a member of the Assassin's Creed, before being transported back in time to experience the life of his ancestor.

Traditionally, films based on video games have received a mixed reception from audiences, but if the new trailer is anything to go by this looks like it could be an adaptation that really works on the big screen. The cast looks impressive too, with Fassbender set to star alongside the likes of Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed. The film is due to land in UK cinemas on January 1st 2017.
