Five Reasons To Get Excited For… X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse arrives in cinemas in a couple of weeks’ time and here at hmv.com towers we’re very excited!

The movie sees Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters and Nicholas Hoult return for to reprise their roles, with Oscar Isaac playing villain Apocalypse.

Among the new cast members are Game Of Thrones' Sophie Turner, The Newsroom's Olivia Munn, The Road's Kodi Smit-McPhee and former Eastenders man Ben Hardy.

The movie follows the return of Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant, who awakes after thousands of years and quickly becomes disillusioned with the world he finds. He recruits a team of powerful mutants and announces plans to cleanse humanity and create a new world order, a plan all the X-Men must band together to stop.

It hits cinemas in the coming weeks, but join us as we take a look at the five reasons to be excited for the return of the mutants and their battle to face down a God…

Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse looks mighty impressive…

In the comic books Apocalypse is a huge presence, both physically and in what his powers are. If you’ve seen Isaac in the trailers not only has he clearly been spending a lot of time in the gym, but he’s got the scale of the part just right. We can’t wait to see how the X-Men face him down.

So do his followers…

Apocalypse has four followers, one of whom is Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, who looks set to continue the same excellent performances he’s offered up in the role so far. The other three are newcomers, they are Olivia Munn’s Psylocke, Alexandra Shipp’s Storm and Ben Hardy’s Angel and their powers are going to take some beating...

There are lots of exciting new faces…

As well as Apocalypse’s followers, there are also a lot of new mutants to get to know. Sophie Turner, who you’ll best known as Sansa Stark from Game Of Thrones, she plays the young Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee, who starred in The Road and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, he plays young Nightcrawler and newcomer Lana Condor, who plays Jubilee. You get a brief look at them showing off their skills in the trailers, but there’s going to be plenty more of that...

There’s going to be a lot of destruction…

The sheer scale of the movie looks absolutely enormous. The trailers haven’t been shy about showing the world crumble as Apocalypse wreaks havoc, with the Sydney Opera House among the iconic buildings to meet its end.

This is going to be Jennifer Lawrence’s film…

In the time since she was cast as Mystique back in 2010 Lawrence has moved from a promising talent to an A-List megastar who commanded $20 million for her new movie Passengers. Now she’s top of the bill with McAvoy, Fassbender and Isaac and she’ll be leading the new breed of mutants against Apocalypse, it’s going to be brilliant!

X-Men: Apocalypse will be released into cinemas on May 18th and will hit DVD shelves later this year. You can catch all the previous X-Men instalments here.
