Nicholas Hoult, star of X-Men and Mad Max: Fury Road, has signed up to play J.D Salinger, the reclusive author of the classic novel The Catcher In The Rye.

The movie will be written and directed by Danny Strong, co-creator of the smash hit TV series Empire, it has been adapted from Kenneth Slawenski's biography of the author J.D. Salinger: A Life.

According to Variety, the movie will chronicle the life and mind of the secretive author and tell the story of the birth of The Catcher in the Rye. It will also take in the author's time in World War II, a life of rejection to the pages of the New Yorker and his writer’s block.
