Your Next Box Set: Twin Peaks

The classic David Lynch series get repackaged into a super duper new deluxe box set to be released on Tuesday (July 29). Only available on Blu-ray 'The Entire Mystery' will include the movie prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and 90 minutes of extensive deleted and alternate scenes.

Here is everything you need to know about the iconic Twin Peaks TV show, it's going to get weird…

What it is?

Created by visionary director David Lynch and Mark Frost, this late 1980s TV series changed how shows were put together. On the face of things, the show is an investigation headed by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, who is dispatched to the tiny town of Twin Peaks to look into the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer and finds himself caught up in a very murky plot.

Sound like a standard murder mystery? Trust us, it's not. Its off-kilter in its tone and presentation and leaves you feeling unsettled constantly. Like much of Lynch's work, it focuses on the unpleasant under layers that lurk behind the floral curtains of small town life. It's impossibly dark and, with Angelo Badalamenti and Lynch's one of a kind score tinkling away in the background, you're left in a state of constant nervousness.

Who’s in it?

The show featured a proper ensemble cast, with no one actor leading the pack. Special Agent Dale Cooper is played by Sex In The City star Kyle MacLachlan, with the likes of Lara Flynn Boyle, Peggy Lipton, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Russ Tamblyn, Eric Da Re, Sherilyn Fenn and 24 star Ray Wise among the assembled masses.

Why should I watch it?

Because it's a series like you've never seen before and is utterly compelling. The writing is beautiful, the tone is menacing and bewitching. The only downside is that there are only two series.

Describe the show in three words…

Creepy, compelling, iconic. That's about as close as you can get to summing up Twin Peaks…
