LEGO DC Super-Villains: What You Need To Know
Heads up LEGO fans! TT Games and Warner Bros. have hooked up once again to deliver another one of their LEGO adventures, but this time there's a twist: you get to be the bad guys.
LEGO DC Super-Villains is the latest LEGO-themed adventure from the TT Games team and this time you'll be able to take control of the DC Universe's most notorious villains from The Joker to Gorilla Grodd – and even one of your own making.
The new game makes its arrival in stores this Friday (October 19th), here's everything you need to know...
So what's the synopsis here?
The storyline kicks off with the arrival of Darkseid, the tyrannical ruler of the planet Apokolips, who announces himself as Earth's new ruler. Usually this is where the Justice League would show up to save the day, but the team of superheroes has mysteriously gone missing. Arriving to take their place are a new superhero team calling themselves the Justice Syndicate, who announce that they will be the protectors of Earth until the Justice League return from an unspecified mission.
However, all is not as it seems. The heroes' usual collection of enemies, led by Lex Luthor and calling themselves the Injustice League, smell a rat and soon discover that these new 'heroes' are really the group known as the Crime Syndicate of America, a bunch of villains from a parallel universe whom they suspect are really here to aid Darkseid in his quest to find the anti-life equation on Earth.
Not wanting to find themselves under the rule of a rival bunch of crooks, they mobilise to defend the Earth from these new imposters, with the slightly less noble aim of taking control of the planet for themselves.
What's the gameplay like?
Much like the other LEGO adventures developed by TT Games, LEGO DC Super-Villains is a third-person action-adventure type of game with the usual blend of adventure sequences, cinematic cutscenes and puzzle-solving scenarios, and in addition to the single-player campaign there's also a two player co-op mode if you want to get a friend involved.
As with the most recent couple of instalments in the LEGO Batman series, there's also an impressive roster of playable characters from the DC Universe, both iconic and obscure, and the usual brand of irreverent humour. The difference here of course is that you get to take control of the baddies instead of the usual roster of heroes, each with their own unique abilities, which is heaps of fun and makes a welcome change from previous instalments.
Any new features?
The big new addition is that, for the first time ever in a LEGO game, LEGO DC Super-Villains allows you to play the game as your own customisable character, as well as any of the huge roster of characters from the DC Universe. Known as 'The Rookie', your very own custom character will get to take centre stage in the storyline this time around.
The other welcome change is the return of the game's all-star voice cast, led by none other than Mark Hamill as The Joker and including the likes of Clancy Brown, John Barrowman, Tara Strong and Michael Dorn, among many, many others.
