"2013 was an amazing and overwhelming year for us" - hmv.com talks to Showtek
Dutch dance duo Showtek have gone from strength to strength over the past year, playing to huge crowds across the globe and releasing some top-notch singles that have lit up dancefloors and festival fields alike. We sat down with the brothers Wouter and Sjoerd Janssen to talk about their plans for the year ahead and the follow-up to their debut album Analogue Players In A Digital World.
How was 2013 for Showtek?
"An amazing and overwhelming year for us. We did so many shows and it was crazy to see that almost every track or collaboration we released became insanely popular worldwide."
You collaborated with Sonny Wilson and NoiseControllers recently, what were they both like to work with?
"It’s always great to work with other people. They have a different philosophy and view on music which will always result in a unique sound if you work together."
What can we expect from Showtek in 2014? Will you be touring as hard as you did in 2013?
"Actually, at the moment we’re blocking our calendars for some studio time back in Holland. As we head towards summer, we will be touring a lot more but for now we think it’s important to produce some new material, so we won’t be dependent on old tracks when we’re in the middle of a busy summer schedule."
What were some of your favourite new tracks from the past year?
"We've made a little list for you:
Showtek & We Are Loud ft. Sonny Wilson – 'Booyah', Calvin Harris – 'Thinking About You', Showtek – 'Slow Down', Showtek ft. Noisecontrollers – 'Get Loose' (Tiesto Remix), Danny Avilla – 'Tronco', Empire Of The Sun – 'Alive' (Zedd Remix), TJR – 'Whats Up Suckas', David Guetta & Glowinthedark ft. Harrison – 'Ain't A Party', Armin van Buuren – 'This Is What It Feels Like' and Icona Pop's 'All Night (Kryder Remix)'."
Are there any up and coming DJs people should be on lookout for?
"There is this young guy called Brooks that comes from an area near to where we live and he’s a really talented producer. He’s actually signed to our bookings & management agency ‘2-Dutch’. You can expect some real good stuff from him in 2014!"
If you could make a track with any vocalist, who would you choose?
"Coldplay's Chris Martin."
Where is your favourite place in the world to DJ?
"Pffff, that’s a really difficult question. A while ago we were really psyched to play in the States and the crowd is still awesome there, but Asia also really opened up our eyes! Over the last few weeks, we’ve been in Europe and it’s also really surprising to see crowds going wild at our shows in France and Germany."
