Actress Scarlett Johansson starts new band The Singles with Haim's Este
Avengers and Lucy star Scarlett Johansson has started a new band named The Singles, with Haim bassist Este Haim also featuring in the line-up.
The Singles, who also consist of singer-songwriter Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan, have unveiled their first track 'Candy', which you can hear at the bottom of the page. Este Haim will act as the band's drummer.
Speaking about her new project in a press release, Johansson said: "The idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls. I love Grimes. And I love the Bangles. And I love the Go-Go's. I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke."
The band's first single 'Candy' will be released on Federal Prism, the label run by TV On The Radio mainman and super producer Dave Sitek.
The Singles are not Scarlett Johansson's first foray into music. Back in 2008 she released Anywhere I Lay My Head, an album of Tom Waits cover, and, in the following year she collaborated with guitarist Pete Yorn to release an album called Break Up.
