Adele, Dua Lipa and Little Simz amongst the winners at the 2022 BRIT Awards
Adele emerged as the biggest winner at this year’s BRIT Awards, picking up three of the main awards at Tuesday night’s ceremony held at London’s O2 Arena.
This year’s BRITs marked a change in format by making the categories genderless for the first time, with female artists and female-fronted bands winning two thirds of this year’s prizes overall.
Nominated in four categories in total, Adele took home the awards for Best Artist, Best Album and Song of the Year for her recent hit ‘Easy on Me’, while Dua Lipa came out ahead in a vote by TikTok users to win in the Best Pop / R&B category.
Ed Sheeran was named Songwriter of the Year, performing a rendition of his hit ‘Bad Habits’ with Bring Me the Horizon, while Little Simz provided one of the evening’s highlights, taking her mum onstage with her to collect the award for Best New Artist.
Inflo was awarded Producer of the Year in recognition of his work with Little Simz and Sault, with Wolf Alice winning Best Group and Sam Fender beating off competition from Coldplay and Glass Animals to win in the Best Rock/Alternative category.
Rapper Dave provided another of the evening’s best moments, celebrating his win in the Best Hip-Hop/Rap/Grime category with a show-stopping performance that saw Dave piling on the pyrotechnics while treating fans to a spectacular guitar solo.
Elsewhere there were also wins for Billie Eilish, who was named Best International Artist, and Silk Sonic, who won in the Best International Group category, while there were also wins for Becky Hill, who won Best Dance artist, and newcomer Holly Humberstone, named this year’s BRITs Rising Star.
