Adolescent New York metal trio land huge $1.7 million record deal
A New York metal band, featuring two 13-year olds and a 12-year old, have landed a record deal that could be worth up to $1.7 million dollars.
Unlocking The Truth, who consist of guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, bassist Alec Atkins, and drummer Jarad Dawkins, have signed a guaranteed two album deal with Sony, despite the fact that both Brickhouse and Atkins are only 13 and Dawkins is just 12.
According to the New York Post, the record deal will net the band $60,000 up-front for their first LP, with a possible $350,000 advance on their second. Then, if Sony goes all the way with their six-record contract, the band could net upwards of $1.7 million. The trio are so young the deal even had to be approved by a Manhattan Supreme Court.
The trio were discovered busking in Times Square after a video of them performing was posted online and went viral, currently it's been seen over 1.8 million times. The video led to an executive from Sony calling the band's manager and negotiations for the deal began.
