Architects' Ali Dean picks his 10 favourite movies…

As part of Architects' takeover, each member will be curating their own personal Top 10, bassist Ali 'Dino' Dean has picked out his 10 favourite films.

1. Inception

"Arguably Christopher Nolan's finest - intelligent story, wonderful visually and a really strong cast. Really great soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, which helps the film come across as massively as it does."

2. Shutter Island

"Really cool story with a dark vibe, Leo DiCaprio does a wonderful job as a detective who thinks he's losing his mind whilst searching for a missing patient at a mental asylum on the gloomy Shutter Island. Directed by Martin Scorcese as well so you know it's a cracker."

3. The Dark Knight

"Best of the trilogy in my humble opinion. They're all pretty awesome to be fair but this one's got the best villain in Heath Ledger's Joker."

4. The Departed

"Really clever story featuring DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg and Jack Nicholson, what a fine group. Scorcese again, certainly knows how to knock out a film."

5. American Psycho

"Amazing adaptation of the book starring Christian Bale. He plays the part of Patrick Bateman who's a psychotic wall-street fat cat who doesn't care for other humans much and likes to kill hookers. Sometimes dark, sometimes really funnny, well worth a watch."

6. Seven Pounds

"Big Will Smith showing off the diversity of his acting abilities. A real tearjerker featuring the Fresh Prince and a Great Dane called Duke. It's about Big Will doing something a bit silly and then doing something really nice to make up for it. I remember it had me and Sam in tears on a flight to America once, it's THAT good."

7. Pan's Labyrinth

"This Spanish number is a bit of a weird one but it's well worth a watch. Really cool visual effects and a really interesting story."

8. Seven

"Really brutal and dark psychological thriller starring Brad Pitt & Morgan Freeman as a couple of moody detectives and Kevin Spacey as serial killer. Very nasty at points Absolutely horrendous ending as well which makes a nice change."

9. Con Air

"A favourite of mine from when I was a youth. Nicholas Cage's portrayal of "Cameron Poe" is up there with any lead role I can think of. I mean he's really good in Face/Off, but he really tugs on your heart strings in this. Alongside super-villain "Cyrus the Virus," played by John Malkovich from that "Being John Malkovich" film."

10. The Prestige

"Another Christopher Nolan film about a pair of old-timey magicians that are pretty much trying to 'one up' each other throughout. An amazing cast including Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman and David Bowie of all people!"
