Ariana Grande’s My Everything: What You Need To Know
One of the year’s most anticipated pop albums, Ariana Grande’s My Everything, hits shelves next week. To get you ready, here is every last thing you need to know about the record…
What’s the background?
21-year old Ariana Grande hasn’t been a household name for very long, but she comes into this album cycle riding on a tidal wave of hype. Once the star of Nickelodeon series Victorious and Sam & Cat, she is now a proper pop star, with comparisons to Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Rita Ora now constantly cropping up.
The album’s early single ‘Problem’ has shifted over three million copies, setting things up nicely for the LP to come out…
Who’s producing it?
The production list for this record reads like a who’s who of all the successful producers currently showcasing their wares across the pop charts. First up are frequent Taylor Swift collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, who are behind the controls on ‘Problem’ and ‘Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart’, a track that was actually co-penned by One Direction mainman Harry Styles.
‘One Last Time’ features production from EDM maestro David Guetta, ‘Why Try’ features production from both OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and super-producer Benny Blanco, ‘Break Free’ sees Grande team up with Zedd, the man responsible for monster hit ‘Clarity’, while ‘Best Mistake’ sees rapper Big Sean adding his gruff tones to the track.
Elsewhere, The Weeknd helps out on later track ‘Love Me Harder’, while Darkchild also produces on ‘Hands On Me’, which features A$AP Ferg.
It’s fair to say that this record will have cost Universal a few quid in production fees…
What are the standout tracks?
The outstanding bits are the club bangers, ‘Break Free’, ‘Why Try’ and ‘Problem’. But the best of the bunch is ‘Love Me Harder’, proof, if proof be needed at all, that The Weeknd’s presence on any track is a guarantee of real quality.
Does it deliver?
Like any record with this many producers, the album is a little schizophrenic and comes across more like a singles compilation than an actual record. That said, there are more than enough outstanding pop songs, day-glo EDM bangers and silky R’N’B cuts included.
Ariana Grande’s My Everything will be released on Monday (August 25th) and is available for pre-order now in hmv stores all over the UK.
