Avicii’s Stories - What You Need To Know
Two years after his debut album True smashed all expectations and made him a global superstar Swedish DJ Avicii is back with a new LP named Stories (You can preview and purchase it on the right-hand side of the page). Here is everything you need to know about it…
A little background?
For the whole of 2013 and most of 2014 it looked like there was no stopping Avicii, his singles were selling like hot cakes, the venues he was filling were getting bigger and bigger and he was shooting up the DJ rich list, but, on the eve of his 25th birthday, it all ground to a halt.
Ill for sometime he was forced to cancel months’ worth of commitments to heal properly after having his gallbladder and appendix removed. But, never one to sit about, the DJ got back in the studio and focused on material for his next record, which is now hitting shelves today (October 2nd)...
Who’s Producing It?
Avicii is the main man at the controls, but he’s also leaned on a diverse range of colleagues, songwriters like Wayne Hector (who’s worked with the likes of One Direction and The Wanted) and Sterling Fox (who’s written for Madonna and Charli XCX among others) to collaborators like Incubus guitarist Mike Einzinger and fellow EDM superstar Martin Garrix.
Any Special Guests?
Absolutely loads. The most high-profile are Coldplay frontman Chris Martin who features on ‘True Believer’, country superstar Zac Brown who is on ‘Broken Arrows’ and Alex Ebert, frontman for Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros.
There are also appearances from Cherry Ghost’s Simon Aldred, rapper Matisyahu, rising star Zak Abel and Clean Bandit collaborator Noonie Bao.
What Does It Sound Like?
Avicii promised that this album would be more song-orientated and he’s been true to his word, with an altogether gentler second record. There’s more attention on the voices of his guests, more emphasis on piano and strings and more graceful melodies. That said there are still plenty of tunes that will sound enormous in clubs and festival fields across the world.
Does It Deliver?
The EDM star has kept true (no pun intended) to the formula that has made him a success by welding together soulful voices, freewheeling melodies and big, bouncy dance beats. With a great line-up of singers and some huge choruses this train isn’t going to slow down anytime soon.
