Michael Ball and Alfie Boe's Together At Christmas - What You Need To Know
After enjoying huge success with their previous three team-ups, the opera singer and the musical stalwart unite again for a new festive collection...
A little background...
Both Ball and Boe have been fixtures on stage for the last 20 years or more, with Ball tending towards musical theatre and Boe towards opera. While both enjoyed successful recording careers alongside their stage work, they first became friends after they appeared in a disastrous staging of Kismet at the English National Opera.
They first recorded together on 2016's Together, which saw them taking on classics from Chess, Blood Brothers and Les Misérables.
It was a hit, selling over 600,000 copies in the UK alone and leading to a massive UK tour.
That was then followed by Together Again in 2017 and Back Together in 2019. Now, the pair have teamed up again, this time for something a bit more seasonal.
Speaking about the new collection, Ball said: "Me and Alfie, together at Christmas, I can’t think of anything better!. In these strange times, we wanted to create an album of songs that we like to listen to at Christmas, plus a few surprises along the way, including an original song!"
He went on: "Hopefully, our fans will love listening to this for many years to come. This year it’s certainly going to be a Christmas we’ll never forget. Can’t wait to see you all on tour in 2021".
Boe added: "Keeping the Christmas spirit alive seems more important than ever this year. We wanted to create a festive album that brings joy, love and happiness."
He continued: "Spreading the Christmas cheer is something we all need a little extra of during these challenging times, so, however, people are going to be able to spend their holiday season, we’ll be right here Back Together At Christmas with our fans who we are incredibly grateful for and can’t wait to see in person when we’re back for a brand new tour in 2021."
Who's producing it?
Nick Patrick, who has produced all the pair's previous team-ups, is back behind the desk.
Any special guests?
Just one. Soul man Gregory Porter teams up with the pair on 'The Christmas Song'.
What does it sound like?
The pair have made sure to keep to the classics with this LP, with the likes of 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas', 'White Christmas' and 'Mistletoe and Wine' among the choices. There's one original, the tongue-in-cheek 'My Christmas Will Be Better Than Yours'. Sonically, it's as you'd imagine, warm production and the pair's powerhouse vocals.
Does it deliver?
The pair's dynamic is so well established now. Fans of the earlier work and those looking for a warm-hearted take on a series of festive classics are in luck...
