David Bowie confirms he will release new album, Blackstar, in January
Following a triumphant 2013 return with The Next Day, his first album in a decade, David Bowie has announced that he will release another new album in January next year.
Entitled Blackstar, the album will be released on January 8th 2016 to coincide with the singer's 69th birthday. In a statement on his website, he also confirmed that a new single, also called 'Blackstar', will be released next month on November 20th.
Rumours had been circulating for weeks that there was new music on the horizon, with some theorising that this would include music from his theatre show, Lazurus, but the statement moved to quell these rumours:
“Contrary to inaccurate reporting on the sound and content of the album, only the following can be confirmed: The single will be released on November 20th and is not part of David’s theatre piece ‘Lazarus’”.
A snippet of the title track was published on October 6th by Sky Atlantic, as it forms part of the opening credits for their new seris The Last Panthers, stating that the track was "exclusively comissioned" for the series, making it the first time in 45 years he has specifically created music for a TV show.
