Downton Abbey stars to release Christmas Album

Members of the cast of Downton Abbey have united to record a Christmas album.

The 45-track compilation is titled Christmas At Downton and will contain hymns, carols and seasonal tracks by actors Elizabeth McGovern, Julian Ovenden and Jim Carter, reports The Guardian.

Although the cast do contribute, the majority of the contributions for the album have sourced from outside contributors, including Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and the Choir of Kings College. The show's theme has also been adapted as a two-part festive suite and has been performed by the Budapest City Orchestra.

Speaking about the compilation, McGovern, who also moonlights as the singer in Sadie & The Hotheads, said: "It was so exciting for me to have been given the opportunity to sing two songs in a totally different context to that which I’m accustomed – without my guitar, without my band.”

The compilation will be released on November 10th.
