Ed Sheeran has landed a role in new blood-soaked TV series The Bastard Executioner.
Sheeran, who is coming to the end of his tour in support of his hugely successful second album X (which you can preview and purchase on the right-hand side of the page), will play the role of Sir Cormac, an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder in the new series.

The show has been created by Kurt Sutter, the man behind Sons Of Anarchy, a series of which Sheeran is a known fan. It is described as a blood-soaked medieval epic that tells the story of a 14th century warrior whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of a journeyman executioner.
Sheeran joins True Blood's Stephen Moyer and Sons Of Anarchy star Katey Sagal in the new show, which is due to premiere this autumn.
