Ed Sheeran makes it eight straight weeks at Number One with x

Ed Sheeran made it eight weeks in a row at Number One in the UK Album Chart last night (August 17th) with his new album x.

The singer, who just played storming sets at this weekend's V Festival, made it an unbroken two-month long run at the top of the chart yesterday with his second record (which you can preview on the right hand of the page).

Sheeran has the longest running Number One album since Adele's 21, which stayed at the top for 11 weeks in a row back in 2011, reports the Official Charts Company.

Elsewhere in the Album Chart, The Gaslight Anthem scored a big new entry with their album Get Hurt, which charted at Number Four, just behind Sam Smith and Dolly Parton, who were Number Two and Three respectively.

Britain’s Got Talent stars Richard And Adam debuted one place behind The Gaslight Anthem at Number Five with their new LP At The Movies, while OneRepublic re-entered the Top 10 at Number Nine with their album Native, which had seen a new deluxe edition released last Monday. The Saturdays were also a new entry at Number 10 with their new 'Greatest Hits' compilation.

Singer-songwriter FKA Twigs was new at Number 16 with her debut album LP1, while Sinead O’Connor was new in at Number 22 with her 10th studio album, I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss. Further down, Feeder frontman Grant Nicholas was new at 37 with his debut solo record Yorktown Heights.
