Ex-One Direction man Zayn Malik signs solo record deal and promises "real music"
Former One Direction star Zayn Malik has signed a solo record deal.
The singer left One Direction earlier this year and was expected to take a lengthy break from music, but announced yesterday (July 29th) that he is now a solo artist and has signed a deal with RCA Records, an imprint of Sony Music Entertainment, where he was previously signed with One Direction.
Announcing his new deal on Twitter, Malik wrote: "I guess I never explained why I left , it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am!" He also added the hashtag #realmusic.
Malik has previously recorded solo material with Sam Smith producer Naughty Boy, although after the pair's recent public spat on Twitter it's unlikely they'll be working together on anything in the future.
