Across the weekend, will be down at Lovebox Festival in Hackney's Victoria Park to review all the top artists, next we're off to check out A$AP Rocky on The Main Stage...

A$AP Rocky, New York-based rapper currently residing on NY's Polo Grounds imprint.

The Main Stage @ Lovebox Festival, set in London’s Victoria Park

Was it full? And how were the crowd?

The festival has been sold out all weekend and A$AP Rocky was clearly one of the biggest attractions on the first day, drawing a huge crowd that gathered around the main stage just as the sun was beginning to set and the baking, relentless heat was starting to ease off a little. Those down at the front were really fired up for the gig, screaming almost every word back at the rapper as he worked his way through an hour-long set.

So what was the set like? What did he play?

A$AP Rocky and his assembled crew blasted through a career-highlight set that included favourites like ‘Goldie’, ‘R. Cali’, ‘Hands on the Wheel’ and ‘Purple Kisses’, which he dedicated to Prince. There were also blistering renditions of ‘Wild for the Night’ and ‘Fuckin’ Problems’, both of which had the crowd heaving.

Any good between song banter?

At one point, having spotted no fewer than three separate mosh pits, Rocky was encouraging them all to compete with each other. It was difficult to tell who won, to be honest, with a sea of bodies crashing in time to the beats.

Did he put on much of a show?

Rocky, Ferg and the rest of the A$AP Mob were pretty energetic and had the crowd rocking from the beginning in the blistering heat of east London’s mini heatwave. They paused in the middle to pay tribute to some 90s hip-hop classics, which went down a storm.

What was the highlight of the set?

For us, it was the part of the aforementioned 90s section that included a rendition of House of Pain’s ‘Jump’, which had the entire crowd…well…jumping, obviously.

Where can I catch him next?

Rocky is heading straight to Spain tonight for a performance at the Monegros Festival in Fraga, before the crew will be heading back to the U.S where Ferg and Rocky will both be playing sets at Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party.
