Carole King brought her iconic LP Tapestry to Hyde Park over the weekend at British Summer Time and we were there to review it...

Carole King, the wondrous singer-songwriter, performing her 25 million selling second album Tapestry in full.

In London's Hyde Park as part of the British Summer Time festival throughout July.

Was it full? And how were the crowd?

It was absolutely packed, there were people as far as the eye could see in Hyde Park.

So what was the set like? What did she play?

She began with a riotous 'I Feel The Earth Move' before a serene 'So Far Away' and a 'It's Too Late' which had arms aloft from front to back. From there she progressed through Tapesty, barely pausing between songs until she got to 'Where You Lead', where she welcomed daughter Louise to sing with her. The album's final act, '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman', was a particular stunning moment, with the 74-year old King sounding as good as she ever did leading the crowd through the chorus.

After she returned for a second set, she treated the crowd to some of the hits she and her former producing partner Gerry Goffin had written for others, including megahits 'The Locomotion', 'Take Good Care Of My Baby' and so many more. She finished with a reprise of 'I Feel The Earth Move' and 'You've Got A Friend', which almost the whole of the park carried on singing well after she left the stage.

Did she put on much of a show?

The show started with a lovely film featuring Elton John, Tom Hanks, David Crosby and other luminaries talking about how much the album had influenced them and there were several clips of a much younger King playing the songs, but no fireworks or confetti.

What was the highlight of the set?

A particularly moving 'Where You Lead' saw King joined by her daughter Louise Goffin to sing it, there weren't many dry eyes by the end of the song.

Where can I catch her next?

Regretably you can't, this was a one-off, at least for now...
