hmv.com reviews… Don Broco @ Kentish Town Forum
Their second album isn’t due out until July, but that didn’t stop Don Broco from crushing it in Kentish Town on Friday night (February 20th). We review their return to the stage…
Don Broco. Bedford’s finest rockers.
The Forum, right in the heart of North London.
Any good supports?
Southampton's Bury Tomorrow got the place jumping with their muscular metalcore before giving way to We Are The In Crowd who wowed the place with their plucky pop punk anthems.
Was it full? And how were the crowd?
It was full to bursting with a rabid crowd, they were lively for all the bands, but they went demented for Don Broco.
So what was the set like? What did they play?
Kicking off with new single 'Money Power Fame', Don Broco were in fine form throughout the set, mixing in three more new songs, the anthemic 'Fire', a blistering 'Automatic' and a strangely groovy cut called 'Superlove'. The new songs are a mixture of vintage Talking Heads and early Blur combined with the rhythmic pulse of Foals and the energy of Biffy Clyro, and hearing them live sure got us excited to hear the new album.
The rest of the 14-song set consisted of older cuts, including a thriller 'Actors' and a massive 'You Wanna Know', which finished the set off. If they continue on this form, then they're in for a massive couple of years.
Any good between song banter?
Not so much banter as general geeing up. This band have been hidden away in the studio for far too long, so they were full of energy and charm throughout.
Did they put on much of a show?
A big backdrop emblazoned with a huge ‘DB’. Nice touch.
What was the highlight of the set?
New track ‘Fire’ sounded absolutely ginormous and set the place alight.
Where can I catch them next?
They’ve got nothing booked in for a while, but Damiani told everyone that he’d see them at a festival in May. He could mean The Great Escape, he probably means Slam Dunk, we’ll see…
