hmv.com reviews... The Devil Wears Prada @ Slam Dunk Festival
All day today (May 25th), hmv.com will be down at Slam Dunk Festival, bringing you reviews from the almighty collision of punk, pop-punk, hardcore, metal and emo. Next up it’s Christian metalcore livewires The Devil Wears Prada...
The Devil Wears Prada, purveyors of huge riffs, colossal breakdowns and big choruses.
Slam Dunk Festival, in the South. Hatfield to be exact. Outside at the Monster Stage.
Was it full? And how were the crowd?
It wasn’t as full as earlier sets had been, partly due to Neck Deep and Motion City Soundtrack appearing at the same time, but the turnout was more than respectable.
So what was the set like? What did they play?
40 minutes, hard, fast and full of epic breakdowns. They play face-melting metalcore and their set was full of meaty tracks like 'War', the brutal 'Assistant To The Regional Manager', smashing 'Gloom' and the colossal, closing 'Mammoth'.
Any good between song banter?
Not much, a dedication to their tourmates in I Killed The Prom Queen and The Ghost Inside, who suffered the same tour bus breakdown as they did, and, a small eulogy to the big man upstairs (that’s Jesus Christ by the way…).
Did they put on much of a show? Any fireworks?
With two downtuned guitars, slamming out riffs like slabs of prime beef, keyboards turned up to 11 and a pounding rhythm section, no extra fireworks required.
What was the set highlight?
The closing ‘Mammoth’, it sounded enormous and came across like a brutal, battering ram.
Where can I catch them next?
They're on Warped Tour across the US all summer, then who knows...
hmv.com will be at Slam Dunk Festival across the weekend, stay tuned for more reviews and interviews.
