hmv.com reviews... We Came As Romans @ Download Festival
Download Festival, the annual pilgrimage of thousands of rock and metal fans to a field just off the M1 to watch over 100 bands is here. hmv.com will be bringing you reviews and interviews from the festival across the weekend. Our final day at Download Festival starts with Detroit metalcore rising stars We Came As Romans, how did they do in the early afternoon rain?
We Came As Romans, Detroit rising rockers, they're a little bit screamy, but with some really huge choruses, they're currently touring their third full-length effort Tracing Back Roots (which you can preview by clicking on the icon on the right-hand side of the page).
Download Festival, on the Zippo Encore Stage, early in the day.
Was it full? And how were the crowd?
A little thin, a couple of thousand maybe, but given the set started at 1.30pm and it was teaming down with rain, it was actually quite respectable.
So what was the set like? What did they play?
It was a tight, muscular half an hour, with the band showcasing the best cuts from new album Tracing Back Roots, including a powerhouse airing of 'Hope' and a barnstorming go through the album's title track. Though time was short, they did also find time to drop in their cover of The Wanted's Glad You Came, with its added screaming. That was a lot of fun.
Any good between song banter?
Clearly conscious that they only had half an hour to barrel through their set, they kept the talking to a minimum, there were a few thank yous, not much else.
Did they put on much of a show?
The band's set started at 1.30pm on the festival's second stage, so all they could do was put up a big, black banner.
What was the highlight of the set?
Fun as their cover of 'Glad You Came' was, the real highlight of the set was 'Hope', which was absolutely stonking.
Where can I catch them next?
They've got a metric tonne of European festivals across the summern before returning to these shores for Reading and Leeds Festivals.
hmv.com will be at Download Festival across the weekend of June 13th to June 15th, bringing you interviews and reviews.
