"The direction of the record's been an interesting one. It's been sort of back to basics for me..." hmv.com talks to Gary Barlow
On Monday 25th November Gary Barlow gave fans an exclusive performance at our 363 Oxford Street store to coincide with the realease of his first solo album for nearly 14 years, Since I Saw You Last.
We caught up with Gary to talk about the direction of his new album, for which he says he's gone back to basics: "The direction of the record's been an interesting one. It's been sort of back to basics for me because when I think about my sound moving forward, I don't really hear it as electronic. I don't really hear it with any kind of R&B influence, so where do you go? So I went back to roots y'know? The sort of stuff I used to write when I was very young was very acoustic, very folky. I was brought up listening to The Spinners and The Beatles, Johnny Cash and Lonnie Donegan, so from my youth I've retained this love of that sort of style of music."
Gary performed a selection of new songs and Take That favourites for fans and signed copies of his new record for purehmv members.
Watch our video below for the interview and clips of his performance, including Take That's hit Back For Good and Let Me Go from his new album.
