hmv.com tips... Alvvays
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Canadian fuzz pop types Alvvays, let’s see what you make of them…
Who Are They?
Alvvays hail from Toronto and consist of Molly Rankin (lead vocals/guitar), Kerri Maclellan (keys/vocals), Alec O'Hanley (guitar), Brian Murphy (bass) and Phil MacIsaac (drums). They’ve been going since late 2012, with lots of gigs around their home city, with steadily rising attendances. Now signed to Transgressive, their self-titled debut album, which has been produced by indie maestro Chad VanGalen, is out next week.
Who Do They Sound Like?
This is shimmering slacker rock, fuzzy indie warmth mixed with big-hearted pop. You can hear bits of Teenage Fanclub, Sonic Youth, early R.E.M, Weezer and even Belle & Sebastian across their sound.
Why Should I Be Excited?
They write wonderful, ludicrously catchy lo-fi pop songs, that’s all you need to know.
Can I Hear Something?
You can, of course you can. Their recent single ‘Archie, Marry Me’ is below for you.
