hmv.com tips... Moko
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we're tipping young London-based solo artist Moko for big things...
Who Is She?
22 year old Diane Nadia Adu-Gyamfi, better known simply as Moko, has been steadily making a name for herself in recent months, first coming to our attention early last year when she was asked to join Rocket Number Nine and Neneh Cherry for a live performance on Boiler Room TV. This led to her collaborating on a single, 'Count On Me', with Chase & Status.
After her first show in London sold out she was soon signed up to Virgin imprint MTA Records, releasing her first EP, Black, in October last year, and a second, entitled Gold in July.
Who Does She Sound Like?
Moko's sound is a mixture of R&B, soul and trip-hop, with some already calling her 'London's answer to Massive Attack'. That may be a little premature, but make no mistake; Moko is a talented young artist who has the potential to be exactly that good.
Why Should I Be Excited?
Moko is just starting out and if her early output is anything to go by, she will definitely be one to watch over the next year or so. As if that wasn't reason enough, she also happens to be in possession of one of the most awesome hairdos we've seen in a long time.
