David Bowie, The 1975, Radiohead among nominees for 2016 Mercury Prize
David Bowie, Savages, Bat For Lashes, Radiohead, Anohni and The 1975 are among the albums on the shortlist for this year's Hyundai Mercury Prize.
Also on the shortlist are Kano, Jamie Woon, Laura Mvula, Michael Kiwanuka, Skepta and The Comet Is Coming.
This year's prize sees a change in the rule, with the introduction of a new finalists phase on the night of the Awards Show. The first finalist will be selected by online poll with five remaining finalists will be chosen by the Mercury Prize Judging Panel. The same judging panel will then meets again at the ceremony to choose the overall winner.
The prize money has increased from previous years with the winner now going home with a cheque for £20,000. The six shortlisted albums and the winner of the prize will be announced on September 15th at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith.
Among the judges for this year's prize are Wolf Alice singer Ellie Roswell, Jessie Ware, Pulp mainman Jarvis Cocker and producer Naughty Boy. The prize was won in 2015 by Benjamin Clementine.
