hmv previews…Wireless Festival
Throughout the year, we're going to be bringing you a comprehensive preview of the summer's best festivals. This week it's the spectacular looking Wireless Festival...
Finsbury Park in London and Perry Park in Birmingham.
July 4-6 2014. Yeah.
How did last year go?
Very very well, with the festival's transition to an event focused on urban music completed with great aplomb. Wireless actually got going in 2005 and was really another indie rock events with headliners like Kasabian and Keane, gradually, over the years, it evolved to become more and more led by urban music, and, in 2012, organisers completed the transition with the likes of Rihanna and Drake headlining rather than indie bands.
2013's crop was very impressive with Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z topping a bill that also included Snoop Dogg, Frank Ocean, will.i.am and Rita Ora.
Who's playing this year?
It's an absolutely stellar line-up. Kanye West headlines the opening day, topping a bill that also includes Pharrell Williams, Basement Jaxx, Angel Haze, Ella Eyre and Iggy Azalea.
Drake tops the bill on day two with support coming from Rudimental, Wiz Khalifa, Azealia Banks, Chance The Rapper, Earl Sweatshirt and A$AP Ferg.
Finally, Bruno Mars closes out the final day with a reunited Outkast supporting. As well as this, Ellie Goulding, John Newman, Clean Bandit, veteran duo Salt N'Pepa and Neon Jungle are also on the bill.
Loads. It's Kanye West's only show of the summer in the UK, likewise for Drake and Bruno Mars, Outkast are doing their only other show at Bestival, so it's a pretty exclusive bunch.
For London, it's £210, or £195 if you don't include the booking fee. For Birmingham, it's £172, or £160 if you don't include the booking fee. Day tickets for London are £71.50 and £62.50 for Birmingham. Bargain, basically.
