Best Vinyl Soundtracks: Our 10 Best-Selling Titles

We bring you our rundown of the biggest-selling soundtracks on vinyl at hmv...

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens

10. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

If you were to ask someone – anyone – do draw up a list of the most famous film themes, we'd be willing to bet that John Williams' towering title sequence from Star Wars would feature in there somewhere, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to find his soundtrack for the latest instalment in the sage in our top 10. All across the soundtrack for JJ Abrams' film, Williams re-tools and cleverly subverts his own iconic theme, adding twists here and there to bring this classic into the 21st century.

9. Deadpool

Comprising an original score composed by Dutch producer and multi-instrumentalist Tom Holkenborg - better known by the name Junkie XL – and a selection of tracks featured in the film by the likes of Neil Sedaka, DMX and Salt 'n' Pepa, the soundtrack to Marvel's foul-mouthed fun-fest Deadpool has proved as big a hit as the film itself, edging itself to the no. 9 spot on our list of bestsellers.

The Man Who Fell to Earth

8. The Man Who Fell To Earth

Reissued on vinyl at the end of 2016, this soundtrack from Nicolas Roeg's sci-fi film starring the incomparable David Bowie has wasted no time climbing to no. 8 on our list of best-sellers. Although Bowie's own music doesn't feature, the score features compositions from Stomu Yamash'ta and John Phillips, tracks from Louis Armstrong and Geneveveive Waite, and some stirring renditions of pieces from Gustav Holst's The Planets, performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Stranger Things: Season 1 Volume 1 - Volume 1

7. Stranger Things - Season 1, Vol. 1

Invada Records

Stranger Things has undoubtedly been one the biggest success stories for Netflix sine they began producing original content and the soundtrack plays a huge part in creating the show's tense and spooky atmosphere. Created by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein from retro-synth purveyors S-U-R-V-I-V-E, this really is an album that stands up on its own and has earned its spot at no.7 in our list of best-selling vinyl soundtracks.

Suicide Squad: The Album

6. Suicide Squad: The Album

The soundtrack to DC's anti-superhero adventure features some brilliant tunes form the likes of Eminem, Grimes, Twenty One Pilots, Kehlani, Skrillex and Panic At The Disco among many others, and it has proved very popular with soundtrack fans, who've pushed this one up to no. 6 on our best-sellers list.

Baby Driver

5. Baby Driver

Edgar Wright's Baby Driveris not only one of the best films of the year, but also one of the best soundtrack compilations. The double-LP vinyl edition is set to land on the shelves on July 21st and includes tracks from a broad range of artists, including The Commodores, T. Rex, Incredible Bongo Band, Queen, Young MC and, of course, 'Chase Me', the track produced by Danger Mouse for the film which features Outkast's Big Boi and Run the Jewels duo El-P and Killer Mike.

4. Trainspotting

From the pounding, swaggering drums of Iggy Pop's 'Lust for Life' in its opening sequence to the mellow grandiosity of Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day', the soundtrack to Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, based on the novel by Irvine Welsh, is one of the very best that arrived in the 1990s and its enduring popularity sees the album land at no.4 on our list of best-sellers. Other highlights include New Order's 'Temptation' and Underworld's 'Born Slippy', but this is just a great collection of tracks in its own right.

La La Land

3. La La Land

Damien Chazelle's musical won the hearts of audiences everywhere and dominated awards season earlier this year, with the film's excellent collection of songs a key part of the film's success. The soundtrack has been just as popular in our stores and the vinyl edition of the La La Land soundtrack is a worthy fixture at no. 3

Pulp Fiction

2. Pulp Fiction

Island Records

Nobody puts together a soundtrack quite like Quentin Tarantino and Pulp Fiction features one of the very best, with an eclectic mix of songs from the likes of Al Green, Kool & The Gang, Urge Overkill, Dusty Springfield and Chuck Berry. This vinyl is an evergreen fixture in our best-sellers on all formats, but the vinyl edition has proved particularly popular and continues to fly off the shelves, becoming our second-biggest seller.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1

1. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1

Ever since the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, the soundtrack has proved one of the most popular at hmv stores and the vinyl version continues to hold the top spot on our best-sellers list.
