hmv's Next Big Thing... #129 Yonaka

Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you raucous Brighton foursome Yonaka...

Who Are They?

Formed in the early part of 2015 in sunny Brighton, Yonaka consist of singer Theresa Jarvis, guitarist George Edwards, bassist Alex Crosby and drummer Robert Maso. After a string of promising tracks were debuted and some storming early gigs, they're now signed to Hometown Records, which is also home to RAT Boy as well as the hotly tipped Touts and Wildes.

Who Do They Sound Like?

There's a fair bit of Jefferson Airplane and Led Zeppelin in Jarvis's vocals, but there's a harder edge and a lighter touch in the melodies. More Queens Of The Stone Age than Wolfmother.

Why Should I Be Excited?

Huge howling riffs and Jarvis's powerhouse vocals are a potent combination, every song just rips along.

Can I Hear Something?

You should. Their new single 'Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya' is below and available here, along with their other early singles, in our digital store.
