hmv's Next Big Thing... #172 The Faim
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Australian pop-punks The Faim...
Who Are They?
It's safe to say that when most unsigned bands reach out to super producer John Feldmann, a man who has helped the likes of All Time Low, 5 Seconds Of Summer and Panic! At The Disco pen some of their biggest hits, with songs he has produced and co-written accounting for sales of more than 34 million albums worldwide, they probably get short shrift. But there was something about Perth foursome The Faim that made Feldmann pay attention.
Feldmann invited the band, who consist of singer Josh Raven, guitarist Michael Bono, bassist/keyboardist Stephen Beerkens and drummer Sean Tighe, over to Los Angeles and has hooked them up with some serious talent for their debut album. Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, Chris Cheney from the Living End and 5SOS drummer Ashton Irwin are among the collaborators on the album, which is due later this year.
What Do They Sound Like?
Take the stadium-sized choruses of vintage All Time Low, the slick production of American Idiot era Green Day and add in some Weezer and you've got The Faim.
Why Should I Be Excited?
Enormous choruses, joyful melodies and a little bit of swagger, it's a potent mixture.
Can I Hear Something?
Of course. Their latest track 'Midland Line' is below for you:
