hmv's Next Big Thing... #187 Tomberlin
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you rising songstress Tomberlin...
Who Is She?
Tomberlin is Sarah Beth Tomberlin. Born in Florida, but raised in rural southern Illinois, Tomberlin comes from a deeply religious Baptist family and wasn't allowed to listen to non-religious music for the vast majority of her childhood.
After dropping out of school, Tomberlin began writing songs and relocated to Louisville, Kentucky to pursue her career, where she came to the attention of A&Rs.
Her debut album At Weddings was initially released in the autumn of 2017 on a limited-edition vinyl run from Joyful Noise Recordings, but did so well that it has just been re-released on Saddle Creek Records, home of Bright Eyes, Cursive, Azure Ray and more...
What Does She Sound Like?
Take the warmth of Carole King, the swirling orchestration of Broken Social Scene and the elegance of Cat Power and you've got Tomberlin.
Why Should I Be Excited?
Tomberlin's sound is the perfect mix of elegant soundscapes and raw folk.
Can I Hear Something?
Indeed, you can check out her delightful new offering 'Seventeen' below here. Her debut album At Weddings is available here.
