hmv's Next Big Thing... #202 Lou Hayter
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we're giving the big-ups to London-based DJ and musician Lou Hayter.
Who is she?
Described by the Evening Standard as “the style world's favourite DJ”, Lou Hayter has spent the last few years specialising in curating and supervising music for fashion shows and events, spending three years as musical director for the British Fashion Awards. However, Hayter is also one half of electronic duo Tomorrow's World (the other half being Air's Jean-Benoît Dunckel), and previously enjoyed a stint as keyboardist for electro/post-punk outfit New Young Pony Club.
What does she sound like?
After several years adding her dreamy vocals to the electronic beats of Tomorrow's World, Hayter is branching out with her own brand of summery, dancefloor-friendly pop, as exemplified by her solo debut single 'Cherry On Top'.
Why should I be excited?
Yeah, OK, we know it's November but there's never a bad time for good vibes and her debut single has those by the bucketload – a summer tune in winter if ever we've heard one. Plus, as a regular at nightspots like Fabric and the Chiltern Firehouse she's earned herself plenty of admirers on the London club scene too.
Can I hear something?
Yes indeed, check out her debut single 'Cherry On Top' below:
