hmv's Next Big Thing... #210 Black Belt Eagle Scout
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Katherine Paul, better known as Black Belt Eagle Scout...
Who Is She?
Black Belt Eagle Scout is Katherine Paul, a native of a small Indian reservation, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, but now based in Portland.
After spells in various local bands, Paul branched out on her own in 2014 as Black Belt Eagle Scout. A series of excellent early releases earned her a deal with Saddle Creek Records, home of Bright Eyes, Tim Kasher and lots of other contemporary folk royalty.
She capped it all off with the release of her stunning debut album Mother Of My Children, which is out now.
What Does She Sound Like?
Paul brings both elegant, ethereal folk and sludgy raw indie punk. She takes the best of classic Hole, L7 and Bikini Kill and mixes their power with the elegant folky pop of Carole King and Joni Mitchell.
Why Should I Be Excited?
The above sounds pretty good to us, no?
