hmv's Next Big Thing... #230 The Murder Capital

Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Dublin good time boys The Murder Capital...

Who Are They?

The Murder Capital are Dublin boys and consist of singer James McGovern, guitarists Damien Tuit and Cathal Roper, bass player Gabriel Paschal Blake and drummer Diarmuid Brennan.

They formed just over a year ago, but in that time they've built a reputation through a series of excellent tracks and fearsome live shows.

The band's debut album When I Have Fears, which has been produced by U2/Nine Inch Nails key collaborator Flood, is released on August 16th.

What Do They Sound Like?

The fivesome are billed as a punk band, but that's a description that is way too simplistic. Their taste for rawness harks back to Joy Division and Wire, with McGovern's meandering hypnotic vocals calling to mind At The Drive-In and The Velvet Underground.

Why Should I Be Excited?

This is a ambitious, raucous and powerful band and they're well worth keeping an eye on.

Can I Hear Something?

Absolutely. Their new single 'Don't Cling To Life' is below. Have a listen:
