hmv's Next Big Thing... #245 Novacub

Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Novacub, a new outfit with some familiar faces...

 

Who Are They?

Novacub are a new side project, half-formed from indie rockers Bloc Party and two new pals. 

They consist of Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack and drummer Louise Bartles. Bartles drums in Bloc Party, but she's out front here, with drummer Tony Alda and bassist/harpist Iona Thomas completing the line-up. 

 

What Do They Sound Like?

Lissack's choppy guitars, so much a feature of Bloc Party's sounds, are still present and correct, but this is much warmer and poppier than the day job. Their sound has more in common with latter-day Paramore and Wolf Alice. 

 

Why Should I Be Excited?

The above sounds pretty good to us.
