hmv's Next Big Thing... #271 Chappaqua Wrestling
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you powerhouse duo Chappaqua Wrestling...
Who Are They?
Chappaqua Wrestling are Charlie Woods and Jake Mac, a pair of 24-year-olds. Initially formed in Manchester in 2017, the pair have now relocated to Brighton and have expanded their band to include bassist Jude Lilley and drummer John-Paul Townsend.
Now looked after by the same management that propelled the careers of La Roux and Loyle Carner, the pair should be coming towards the end of a busy summer of festivals right now, but that was naturally scuppered by the pandemic. Hopefully, they're using the time to work on their debut album...
What Do They Sound Like?
The pair make dreamy, yet crunchy rock. Imagine the woozier elements of My Bloody Valentine mixed with Washing Machine era Sonic Youth and the distorted yowl of early Biffy Clyro.
Why Should I Be Excited?
The above sounds pretty good to us...
Can I Hear Something?
Absolutely. You can check out their new track 'The Rift' below:
