hmv's Next Big Thing... #281 JW Francis
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you rising troubadour JW Francis...
Who Is He?
Adopted New Yorker JW Francis has gone by many names before settling on this one. He's been Dob Killin, Juno Cassidy, Nico West, all before deciding to go with JW Francis.
It's fitting, given Francis has performed many roles while he's collected songs for his debut album. He's a licensed New York tour-guide and works a day-job as a research assistant for a Nobel-Prize-winner as well as running a murder-mystery business.
It's amazing he's found time to make a record, but he has. His debut album, A Similar Joy, is out on Friday (November 6th) and available here to pre-order in hmv's online store.
What Does He Sound Like?
Francis' sound is hazy, sunbleached indie pop. He blends Velvet Underground esque arrangements with sunny, Strokesy melodies.
Why Should I Be Excited?
The singer-songwriter combination of gorgeous melodies and eccentricity in his arrangements makes for a listen that's both uplifting and interesting.
Can I Hear Something?
Absolutely. His new jam 'Good Time' is below for you:
