hmv's Next Big Thing... #87 Hey Violet
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you 5 Seconds Of Summer approved pop rockers Hey Violet...
Who Are They?
Hey Violet are on their second go. Initially an all-girl group known as Cherri Bomb, they formed in 2008, toured extensively and released an album named This Is The End Of Control in 2012. After deciding that this arrangement wasn't working, then vocalist Julia Pierce departed was replaced by Casey Moreta, who joined bassist/singer Rena Lovelis, guitarist Miranda Miller and drummer Nia Lovells in the new line-up.
Now no longer an all-girl group they decided a new name was in order and they became Hey Violet. In the months that followed their tracks caught the attention of 5 Seconds Of Summer, who decided to make them the first signings to their new label Hi or Hey Records. They've since toured the world with the band and are working away on their debut album.
Who Do They Sound Like?
Cherri Bomb might have been a pop punk outfit, but Hey Violet owe a lot more to 80s pop, think The Cure at their poppiest, vintage Billy Idol and Janet Jackson's upbeat moments.
Why Should I Be Excited?
They write big bouncy pop rock and they're going to be enormous, mark our words.
Can I Hear Something?
