hmv tips for 2014… 5 Seconds Of Summer

Every day throughout January we're going to be introducing you to a new act who we think are going to everywhere in 2014. Today it’s 5 Seconds Of Summer; these Australian types are nailed to be huge in the coming months.

Who Are They?

5 Seconds Of Summer consist of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin and they hail from Sydney. Formed in 2011, they came to prominence when they posted a cover of Justin Bieber's hit 'Next To You' which drew over 600,000 views on YouTube and brought them to the attention of major record labels. They were soon snapped up and have since released a series of singles and built themselves an enormous fanbase. A tour with One Direction (who they're firm friends with) across the world in 2013 certainly helped matters too and sets the band up nicely for the release of their debut album, which will emerge later this year.

Who Do They Sound Like?

This is pure, sugary pop music. Think early Take That, the rockier bits of the Backstreet Boys mixed in with a few bits of All Time Low and Blink-182.

Why Should I Be Excited?

If you love all of the above, then you'll love 5 Seconds Of The Summer, that's all there is to it.

Can I Hear Something?

Course. Their recent single 'Wherever You Are' is below for you.
