hmv tips for 2014… Basic Vacation
Every day throughout January we're going to be introducing you to a new act who we think are going to everywhere in 2014. Today it’s the turn of New Yorkers Basic Vacation, who you're all going to adore.
Who Are They?
The trio consist of singer/guitarist Chris Greatti, bassist Jon Paul and drummer Mike Montalbano. Formed in 2012 when Greatti and Paul began rehearsing together, the band soon recruited drummer Montalbano and began to gig around New York. After securing management, some of their demos were picked up by producer David Kahne (The Strokes, Regina Spektor), who invited the band to record their debut EP 'I Believe' with him.
Who Do They Sound Like?
This is pure, American, pop rock. Think Jimmy Eat World, Foster The People and Tom Petty mixed in with the confidence and assuredness of Queen, Zeppelin and Aerosmith. It's a heady, addictive brew.
Why Should I Be Excited?
Because every track they've placed online is a total banger, incredibly catchy and full of life and vitality. Their debut album will come this year and it's going to be brilliant.
