hmv tips for 2014… Lonely The Brave
Every day throughout January we're going to be introducing you to a new act who we think are going to everywhere in 2014. Today we present rockers Lonely The Brave, they'll make you want to sing along to all their tracks at the top of your lungs.
Who Are They?
Five-piece Lonely The Brave hail from Cambridge and consist of guitarist Mark Trotter, bassist Andrew Bushen, singer David Jakes, guitarist Joel Mason and drummer Gavin 'Mo' Edgeley. They've been plugging away quietly for the last few years, but things got serious in early 2013 when they inked a deal with Hassle Records (home of We Are The Ocean and Cancer Bats) and subsequently released the brilliant and critically lauded Backroads EP.
Who Do They Sound Like?
Imagine Biffy Clyro at their anthemic best singing over the top of a whirlwind of guitars reminiscent of vintage Smashing Pumpkins and you're about halfway there. Mix in some Pearl Jam, a bit of The National, a drop of Foo Fighters here and there, maybe some Queens Of The Stone Age when they go for the jugular and you've got a fair idea. If you like rock with big choruses and big ideas, you'll be all over this.
Why Should I Be Excited?
Because Lonely The Brave are definitely the real deal, they do big, heart-swelling rock without pretension or knowing glances, they're going to won 2014. Their debut album The Day's War is done and ready to go. You can read more about it here in our interview with the band.
