hmv tips for 2014… Tweens

Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Cincinnati trash-pop trio Tweens, they're fast, loud, full of verve and, most importantly, they've got lots of brilliant songs…

Who Are They?

Hailing from Cincinnati, Tweens consist of Bridget Battle on vocals and guitar, Peyton Copes on bass and Jerri Queen on drums. Only formed in 2012, the band have already gathered a few famous fans, including former Pixies bassist Kim Deal, who liked them so much she took them out on tour with The Breeders.

Wonder how she found out about them? On the recommendation from the owner of Cincinnati record storeowner, which is kinda sweet...

Who Do They Sound Like?

Furious, breakneck speed punk rock, with a centre that's pure bubblegum pop and 60s doowop. This is Sleater Kinney when they want to write choruses, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas if they were being covered by mid-period Bikini Kill, all good stuff.

Why Should I Be Excited?

Because their self-titled debut album is a stellar ride from start to finish. It's out on April 7th. Get on it.

Can I Hear Something?

You definitely can. Their recent single 'Be Mean' is below for you and here in our download store
