Jamie xx to release solo album and promises a new album from The xx is coming
Jamie xx has given an update on The xx's progress in recording their third album and has revealed he has almost finished his first solo album.
The band's long-awaited second album Coexist (which you can preview on the right of the page) was released in 2012 and the band have been working on the follow-up for the past year.
Asked how the album was progressing, xx told The Fader: "We've got quite a lot of songs that are not finished, but I'm excited about it. It feels a lot more free than when we were making the last record."
The band had held sessions for the album in both Iceland and Texas, but are now back at work in London.
Jamie xx also revealed he has also been mixing his debut solo album in New York, a record he says which "collects three years' worth of music".
Asked about the solo LP, he said: ""There's one track where I need to get the vocal on, but I don't know who the vocalist is going to be yet. I never really listen to lyrics, but I can understand [them] a little bit more when it's spoken word rather than singing. It gets to my head a bit quicker."
There is no planned release date for his solo album yet.
