Best Albums of July 2021: previews the top 10...

Billie Eilish, Tom Odell and Anne-Marie are among the artists with new albums hitting shelves in July...

Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever

Out July 30th

Pre-Order Here.

After the huge, global success of her debut LP, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, Eilish returns with her second full-length effort at the very end of July.

Written with her brother Finneas, who also produced the album, the LP is an epic with 16 tracks included.

Among them are hit singles 'My Future', 'Therefore I Am', 'Your Power' and 'Lost Cause', which as on When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, display Eilish's taste for experimentation as well as a big, big chorus.

Tom Odell - monsters

Out July 9th

Pre-Order Here.

The singer follows up 2018's Jubilee Road with a very different collection.

The majority of the songs for monsters were penned while Odell was living in Los Angeles, a period he has revealed coincided with difficulties with his mental health.

Working with songwriter Laurie Blundell and producer Miles James, the singer has channelled this traumatic period into a new LP that moves away from the polished sweep of his earlier material and into something much rawer.

John Mayer - Sob Rock

Out July 16th

Pre-Order Here.

The guitar icon releases his eighth studio album and his first since 2017's The Search For Everything.

Produced by Mayer and veteran knob-twiddler Don Was, and most of the album was recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among the guests on the album are Maren Morris and Cautious Clay, while Toto's Lenny Castro and bassist Pino Palladino feature heavily across the LP.

Anne-Marie - Therapy

Out July 23rd

Pre-Order Here.

The singer unveils her second full-length effort, the follow-up to 2018's big-selling Speak Your Mind.

Digital Farm Animals, Mojam, TMS and Nathan Dawe are among the album's production talent, while KSI and Niall Horan both feature on the LP.

Billed as an incredibly personal album, the singer has been open about the impact going to therapy has had on her writing and it's displayed all over this album.

Bobby Gillespie & Jehnny Beth - Utopian Ashes

Out July 2nd

Pre-Order Here.

The Savages singer and Primal Scream frontman come together for this joint LP.

A nine-track record, the album is a delicate collection, which blends influences of gospel, soul and classic country together.

As well as Beth and Gillespie, the album also features Beth’s musical partner Johnny Hostile as well as three members of Primal Scream, Andrew Innes, Martin Duffy and Darrin Mooney.

Laura Mvula - Pink Noise

Out July 2nd

Pre-Order Here

The singer unveils her third studio album at the start of next month, her first since 2016's The Dreaming Room.

Produced by Dann Hume and Troy Miller, the LP features a duet with Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil.

For this album, Mvula has embraced the sonics of the 1980s, revealing that the album has been made with "...sunset tones of the ’80s. I was born in 1986. I came out of the womb wearing shoulder pads. I absorbed the dynamism of the ’80s aesthetic right from my first moments on this planet."

Leon Bridges - Gold-Diggers Sound

Out July 23rd

Pre-Order Here.

The soulful singer drops his third full-length LP towards the end of July.

Named after the Los Angeles studio where the album was recorded, the LP is an R&B-centric collection and moves away from the country sonics with which Bridges had been dabbling.

Produced by Ricky Reed and Nate Mercereau, the LP features guest appearances from Terrace Martin and rapper INK.

LUMP - Animal

Out July 30th

Pre-Order Here.

Laura Marling and Tunng's Mike Lindsay come together to make a follow-up to their acclaimed 2018 self-titled effort.

Blending folk and electronica, the pair's second LP is a rhythmic and instinctive collection, with Marling describing it as an album with “...a little bit of a theme of hedonism, of desires running wild..."

The Go! Team - Get Up Sequences Part One

Out July 2nd

Pre-Order Here.

The freewheeling, genre-melding collective return with their first LP since 2018's Semicircle.

A 10-track collection, the album finds mainman Ian Parton in vintage form, bringing together joyful soul, windswept country and disco grooves.

Stephen Fretwell - Busy Guy

Out July 16th

Pre-Order Here.

After 13 years out of the game, the singer-songwriter returns with a new LP.

Fretwell’s last album was 2007’s Ivor Novello-nominated Man On The Roof, with his new effort coming out on producer Dan Carey’s cult label Speedy Wunderground.

Carey has produced the record, which is a deeply personal collection, chronicling the breakdown of Fretwell's marriage.
