Muse and Iron Maiden left out as BBC Radio 2 launches vote to find greatest ever guitar riff

BBC Radio 2 has launched a national poll to find the greatest guitar riff of all time, with classic riffs from the likes of Guns N' Roses, Thin Lizzy and Arctic Monkeys among those in contention.

The poll, which has been launched as part of the station's new 'Guitar Season' of programmes, will run until Friday 25th July and you can vote in it here

To launch the poll, a number of the station's DJs, including Janice Long, Bob Harris and Richard Allison, sat down with other presenters and journalists to come up with a list of the 100 greatest guitar riffs.

Among those named are AC/DC's 'Back In Black', Arctic Monkeys' 'Do I Wanna Know?', Deep Purple's 'Smoke On The Water' and Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child O'Mine'.

There is, however, no place for Muse in the list, despite their hit single 'Plug In Baby' regularly featuring in the top 10 of similar polls. There was also no place in the list for Green Day, The Jam, Weezer, Iron Maiden or Tool.
